Boston says 'Oh HELL No' to Dog Sharing

I could never pawn these two loves of mine off to a creepy company to rent out to people.. gross!

Even if Rocco CANT keep his eyes open for a picture. lol

FlexPets.. everything that's wrong with the world. I love dogs, and have adopted 3 dogs- all from a shelter (Cody was my childhood Mutt, then came Rocco & Lexie who you all know and love). What I don't love is a company that wants you to "rent dogs". FlexPetz is a company that has you go online, pick the dog of your choice and reserve it for a certain amount of time. While I can see where they meant well in the business plan, this is ridiculous!

The only thing missing from their website is Michael Vick giving a thumbs up!

The testimonials on the site are almost reasonable. Reasons why people use FlexPetz?
1. Because my apartment doesn't allow me to have a pet.
2. Because I travel a lot and it wouldn't be fair to the pet to be gone all that time.
3. Having a pet 24/7 is a huge responsibility plus it costs a lot.

yes, the dogs do cuddle like this.. i don't think i'll ever be able to get over how cute it is.

You want to rent a dog? Why don't you do some volunteer work and go help out shelters that are doing humane work and taking care of dogs that do not have a home!!! It'll be a lot cheaper, and you'll feel good about yourself afterwards.

Instead, this company would like you to pay $99 a month plus cost of the actual "pet playdate".

Oh- and something else, did they do any psycho analysis about what this will do to the pet? It will break their heart every time they get returned, plus cause so much unneeded stress. OR, what if the screening process is so/so and they lend the pet to some complete moron who doesn't know how to take care of it? Ugh, I could go on and on about it.

Getting back to why Boston is the greatest city ever. Last week they passed a law banning Flexpetz from bringing this dog abuse to our city, in which they agree, its so hurtful towards the dogs, because it causes anxiety and stress. Wicked correct.

Sorry for the venting. This just seriously makes my blood boil.

On a HAPPY note, click on FreeKibble.com, or the image below, to donate dogfood to dog shelters that are housing many new dogs due to foreclosures. All you have to do is click on the site, and you've done your part! Its basically freerice.com for dogs.

what are your thoughts on this scandalous Pet Sharing?

Julie, you can love Boston but Waltham appeared 72 out of 100 small cities in the country that are the best in the US on a number of criteria. Brookline, roughly the same size, was the ONLY other Massachusetts city to appear on the list. http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/2008/snapshots/PL2572600.html

clearly michael vick wasn't available cause he's in the slamma'

i agree - with everything. The abandonment issues that would create with a dog are horrible. I can't imagine why anyone would justify that at all being a good idea.

I <3 your puppehs. :)

Okay FlexPets sounds ridiculous, I'm glad that Boston has banned it and can't really fathom that it's still running. Especially in lieu of Michael Vick cases arising and such, yikes.

And Rocco and Lexie are so cute, even with their eyes closed :)

I agree that FlexPets sounds silly, but please explain to me why it should be perfectly fine for me to pay someone to walk my dog or take care of it for a weekend, but illegal for me to pay someone else to let me walk their dog or take care of it for the weekend.

Aaron I think you may be confused with FlexPets.. there is no "their dog" the dog belongs to FlexPets, and its facility is i'm guessing equivilant to the same evil Vet in the hit 1992 movie Beethoven.

Its basically like a foster center for pets, except they never have that bright sunny day when they get adopted..

It kind of reminds me of the company "Bag Borrow or Steal" that Jennifer Hudson brings up in the SATC movie. Except, theres a HUGE difference between a DOG and a Louis Vuitton purse. Duh! Go Boston!

I think the founders were flex kids growing up.
