Risin' up, back on the street

Risin' up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance now I'm back on my feet
Just a blogger and her will to survive

The first 5K I ran was back in spring of '06. Last year I signed up for one right before my honeymoon- figured I'd be on a beach within a few week so why the hell not. 0ne 5K per year... until this year, when I realized I hadn't done smack.

Then Erica mentioned the Jingle Bell 5K in December that a few people I know are running. Ooo this is perfect! I wouldn't mess up my streak, plus it's a good excuse to jump on a tredmill and train.

Except.. I hate the cold, and this race is in the middle of December. OUTSIDE! Maybe I would run faster knowing there's a bar and an Irish Coffee waiting for me at the finish line?

But here's where I need you. While I was on the tredmill last night, I almost took a spill because I was so annoyed that I couldn't find any run-worthy songs on my iPod. Like.. when did my iPod turn into a snoozefest?

Whats your favorite workout song? I need enough to fill 30 minutes of running... (for one mile. HA just kidding)

Cos I can't just put "Welcome to the Jungle" on repeat- even though it totally pumps me up.. Plus 'Y Control' by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. that's the hot stuff right there.

Hey there! I just stumbled upon your blog and thought I would leave a few of my current favorite workout songs with you (not that that means I actually work out... but you know, in an ideal world.. and at least I have a 'workout play list' right? that has to count for something..)

Around the Bend- The Asteroids Galaxy Tour (This one was on a recent iphone commercial... yep, I'm that girl..)

I Don't Care- Fall Out Boy (Usually not a fan, but this one sticks with ya..)

Go Go Go- The 88

4 minutes- Justin and Madonna

Shake It- Metro Station

Stronger- Kanye West

Alright, there's a few for you. Good luck with that whole running thing. I'll think of you when I'm listening to my workout playlist while sitting on my couch and eating nachos.

Hi Julie! I love making playlists, they help me so much. Mine are a bit silly thought, because I love to Zumba so much, I have to use a few of my samba/salsa songs to keep me moving! A few of my RYAO (Run Your A$$ Off) list favs...

So What- Pink *Good for at the end.

Keeps Gettin' Better- Christina Aguilera

Church- T-Pain (As seen on SYTYCD)

Just Fine- Mary J Blige

Run the Show- Kat de Luna

Krazy- Pitbull

I like to put a few slower songs in the middle for when I get my flow going. Like:

Miss Independet- Ne-Yo

Mercy- Duffy

Better in Time- Leona Lewis.

Good Luck! I know you can do it! I can't wait to hear how it goes.

My all time fav running song is Fat Boy Slim's "Ya Mama" its like 5min long and has a good tempo.

Cant go wrong with Madonna's "Hung Up"

Love the new AC/DC "Black Ice" song

Sneaker Pimp's "6 Underground" (yea to the movie Hackers!)

JAMIROQUAI's "Cosmic Girl"
because I still watch Center Stage for the last scene when she dances to this song..

None songs I like in real life, but I have found them effective through spinning:

New Workout Plan - Kanye

Jane Fonda - Mickey Avalon

Anything Pitbull

Throb - Janet Jackson!!! (Kinda dirty but the best)

And then I also recommend the Ting Tings or Arctic Monkeys.

I use the Black Eyed Peas, JT, and Michael Jackson to get me through the tough running spots. Pick your faves and it makes the running less painful. :) Also, Stone Temple Pilots' Sexy Type Thin is a pumped up song I have in rotation. Maybe some Gwen Stefani? What's your flavor of music?

I need to start running again ASAP. So I'm hijacking all these songs. :)

I'm training for a 5K too!! Totally love some old school 90's stuff: House of Pain "Jump Around", Marky Mark "Good Vibrations", and Rob Base "It Takes Two".

I am trying to remember what bands are on all on my current playlist....The Killers, U2, Kelly Clarkson, Muse, Keane, Justin Timberlake, Dashboard Confessional, and Ashlee Simpson.

I love running in the cold, but not when there is snow in the ground! Good luck.

Hey Cuz-
Here are some of the tunes I run to:

Gwen Stefani's "What You Waiting For?"
Blondie: "One Way or Another" and "Call Me" are both excellent
Moby's "Extreme Ways" (it's the theme in the Bourne movies)
The entire "Confessions on a Dancefloor" album by Madonna - if you don't have this, let me know and I will figure out a way to get it to you (it's great!)
David Bowie's "Suffragette City"
Fat Boy Slim's "Right Here, Right Now"
U2's "Mofo" (off the Pop album)
Black Eye Peas "Pump It"

I rely heavily on Madonna's "Confessions" album because it's great to listen to start to finish and gets me through some of my longer runs. Hope this helps!
