Have you ever...

...watched an entire movie, and have no clue whats going on, but still enjoy it? I've actually done this many a time. I mean.. I understand English, so its not like the words trip me up (except for Pride & Prejudice- but thats Brits talking). Thank God for Wikipedia, because i usually just read the plot line for the movie on wiki to figure out what actually happened. For some reason, we've watched a plethora of films recenty. Icky rainy weather, maybe? NO GOOD TELEVISION on this season, um yeah? Trying not to go out all the time, probably? Chillin' with two bassett rottweiler siblings, most likely.. pix coming soon btw

going back to the point of this post.. Gus and I watched Fools Gold on Friday night. I get the whole plot of the movie, a broken up couple looks for treasure together.. very "The Breakup" meets "Indiana Jones". But other than that, I could not follow the exact plot line maybe because I was reading up on a weeks worth of Perez Hilton.. except I still really liked the movie!! Kate Hudson and Matthew M are so perfect as an onscreen couple (c'mon How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days? Lurved it!) Totally think its rent worthy.

Be Kind Rewind: Kind of a slow beginning, but this movie was very cute. Jack Black and Mos Def try to save a Video Store by making 'Sweded' videos, where they re-enact the original movie (except its usually about 20 mins). Just the creativity alone in these 'Sweded' videos is worth the rental. Granted its an indie flick so it probably won't appeal to everyone out there.

Semi-Pro: I'm a sucker for Will Ferrell. I didn't like the ice skating movie and I still don't think he's done anything as fabulous as Anchorman (and Old School for that matter), but Semi-Pro will have you chuckling. Good quote from Jackie Moon?

Jackie Moon: here'll be a lotta television cameras out there so we just gotta be tip top.
Clarence 'Coffee' Black: So what's the plan?
Jackie Moon: Brought a secret weapon. It's going to make us look extra cool on Tv.
Bee Bee Ellis: What the hell is that?
Jackie Moon: It's eyeliner dummy. Now who's first? Monix?

---------------------------------
PLUS after watching all these movies, I found an awesome rent one get one free coupon that expires at the end of June.. Looks like I'll be going to rent 'Definitely Maybe' and something else today.

Anyone watch any good movies? Let me know what I should rent

Cinco de Mayo!!

There are a bunch of yummy Mexican restaurants/bars near our house so Saturday we set out with some friends to go celebrate the Mexican victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla (thanks wikipedia!).

Debbie Q even made an appearance to have a mother daughter mojito!!!

Some highs and lows..

High: winning $50 on the Kentucky Derby on Big Brown
Low: tearing up over my frozen strawberry marguarita when a horse was euthanized shortly after the race. I still want to cry and watch Seabiscuit.. and get sad just typing it out.
High: Having an excuse to play with maracas at a bar
Low: Losing a bet over who sang "Achy Breaky Heart". I thought it was for sure Garth Brooks, but Gus knew it was Billy Ray Cyrus. If I had won- I would've made him go to the opening night of SATC movie, where we would get Cosmo's before and after the film! But since I lost, I got dragged to go see Iron Man.
High: Iron Man turned out being AWESOME! If you're going to get forced to see a comic book movie- this one was hilarious and action packed.. go Robert Downey Jr!
High: cooking a yummy Rice and Chicken salad before we went out so we'd have something to munch on instead of ordering pizza. Everyone came over after the bars and chowed down, I was very proud.
Low: Waking up to a sink with a broken bowl and a broken glass. And having NO CLUE how it happened!
High: no drunk dialing the Pizza Guy!!
And on a super high note..

we got MARIO KART for wii!!!!! It has little steering wheels for each player and as soon as we get enough practice in- you can go online and play against anyone you want! You may send me your stats and apply to challenge gus and julie...

Made of Honor was made 11 yrs ago

And it was called My Best Friend's Wedding.I mean.. small chance I'll end up seeing the McDreamy flick, but seriously.. every single part about the commercial screams "Forever and ever you'll stay in my heart and I will love you....forever and ever, we never will part.."
[cue in the Lobster waiters]

i can quote easily 91% of that movie. are you still reading? are we still friends?

Busy Busy Busy

SO.. this past week has been absolutely crazy. We put an offer on a house in the area we've been obsessing over and they accepted! If all goes well, we will be moving into our first house in the beginning of June! A couple of friends have already purchased condos and what not, and have given me the advice of 'Wait until the closing-- because you never know'.. but hey, why not be happy and browse West Elm & Pottery Barn catalogs in the mean time, apply to every single HGTV show.... and learn what the inside of Home Depot and Lowes looks like. ugh, scratch that last one!

Got Mexico coming up in 6 days. Thank God that's already been paid for- whats up, Mortgage! Bought 2 bathing suits (this tankini from Gap Body and this tankini in green from Kenneth Cole Reaction but with the Skirt bottom- super cute) and don't feel completely ridiculous in them (but I will feel MUCH better when I'm rocking some sort of tan).

My teeth are FINALLY starting to feel a little better (JUST a little)- apparently my wisdom teeth on the left side were right on the nerve, so when they were taken out, the nerve was just sitting their raw and on fire. lol but my face on the left side is still swollen! Just check out this picture at the Avenue Q last week, and you can totally notice it.

I watched Atonement today on DVD and am very thankful I did not see it in the theatre, because I cried my eyes out at the end.. like SOBBED for some reason... that movie was very good. little long. lots of gory war things going on. but a powerful story.

Time to pack for vaca! And try out my new eye makeup remover thanks to the Raccoon eyes James McAvoy and Keira just caused.

Like.. 5,000 movie reviews

Hello winter! Thanks for being so sucky that you result into me watching about 5,000 movies in the past 2 weeks. I might as well blog about it!
Michael Clayton- Good rental- but TOTALLY not worth all the Oscar noms! Its just your typical law firm thriller. George Clooney is dreamy though, so you won't fall asleep.

Gone Baby Gone- Maybe I'm bias because I'm a Bostonian, but this was a GREAT movie. A couple rough scenes, but lots of twists and turns in the plot so you keep on guessing. And who doesn't love a great Boston accent?! And a hot Afleck Brother..

Jane Austen Book Club- Cheesy chick flick, but I actually enjoyed watching it (by myself obvi- wouldn't drag the hubs into this one) I'm a sucker for Jane Austen movies (note: not books) so I enjoyed the dialogs between the women when discussing Pride and Prejudice and Emma. I'll say it again, cute cheesy movie.

Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married- Probably only a few of you know my big obsession with Black Comedies. How Stella Got Her Groove back and Diary of a Mad Black Women are right up their with some of my favorite movies. Tyler Perry's latest movie is a definite rental- pretty funny and you'll totally enjoy the couples quarrels and catty girl fights that occur.

Margot at the Wedding- Indie flick with a lot of baggage and drama. Nicole Kidman and Jack Black starred in it- and it was pretty cool to finally see them act! Jack Black plays a flippin' head case and Nicole Kidman has (gasp!) flaws?! Not sure I'd ever watch it again, but I bet some people would like it.

Becoming Jane- Kiera Knightley's performance in Pride & Prejudice was ten times better than Anne Hathaway's portrayal of the kick ass Austen- but nonetheless it was still an enjoyable flick. My problem though- is that I have to wikipedia the plot halfway through these films to find out what the heck is going on. I love listening to accents though- too bad they didn't have Aussie accents in Jane Austen movies... Now I want to see Atonement, but I'll wait for it to come out on DVD.

And the Darjeeling Limited comes out today! Can't wait to watch that one!!! I swear I have a life when the weather is warmer out...

K-Heigl the Ugly Swan?!?

While I totally didn't buy Katherine Heigl as the "always a bridesmaid, never the bride!" spinster... I thought 27 Dresses was a fun movie to see! I probably would've waited for it to come out on DVD, but suprisingly enough both my mother-in-law and Jenny & Lauren asked me to go see it within a 2 day period. And then when I told my mom I was going to see it (w/the girls btw) she was like "OH! that looks SO FUNNY!" So maybe I'll go with her and my M-I-L another weekend.. (OR I'll talk them all into going to see something else!)

Back to the movie- just think of My Best Friend's Wedding, The Wedding Planner, Runaway Bride and 10 things I Hate About You mixed into one. But the good thing is- I loooooved all of those movies, which is why I thought it was funny and cute (plus a couple cheezeball scenes, but what can you do?). I wasn't a James Marsden fan before this, but he actually was pretty hot in it. And for those who do check it out--> I think Judy Greer could be my long lost BFF. She is ridiculous and awesome and fabulous. And I am confessing my love for her fiesty funny kickass self.. (OR maybe just every single character she plays in her movies) For those of you who don't know who she is.. check out her imdb page. You've definitely seen a movie she's been in... Jawbreaker, 13 going on 30, Arrested Development (TV), Love Monkey (TV), The Wedding Planner, What Women Want..

Juno is great. Honest to blog!

Finally saw Juno in the theater this past weekend! I was psyched to see it after hearing a few different reviews from bloggers whose movie taste I trust. I absolutely loved it! Hubs enjoyed it too. And is it weird that I have a semi-small crush on Michael Cera? I won't dig too deep into the plot (because I was actually surprised with some of the twists and turns) but I'd say go check it out in theatres because its a fun treat. Note: the first picture is one I snapped while waiting in line for tix. The sad thing is, I kinda thought it was real at first, and THEN figured out the 1 and the 7 were switched. Those jokesters!

Long Holiday Weekend = Many'a'movies

So far I've watched 4 movies this weekend (3 rentals and one trip to the theatre)
In order of viewing
1. The Heartbreak Kid: A Farrelly Brothers movie. Twisted Humor. About a guy who marries a woman only after knowing her for about 6 weeks and doesn't see her true colors until their Honeymoon in Cabo. Very very very funny first half-- kinda takes some random turns in the middle-- and revives itself in the end. The actress who played Ben Stillers wife totally made the film. Definitely recommend it as a rental.

2. The Kingdom: Call me an idiot, but I really didn't understand one thing in this film. If someone asked me what its about, I couldn't tell you! Gus thought it was really good though- smartie! Lol, I suppose a good reason as to why I didn't get it was because I had my MacBook open blogging the whole time. But still...

3. Once: After reading Nanette's review, I knew this was going to be a definite rental. I LOVED this movie, even Gus thought it was awesome. AND ITS A MUSICAL! To get a boy to love a musical is a triumph- except it wasn't like a typical cheesy musical- even though I love those too. Its even better when you have no clue what its about, so I'm not going to say anything! Except that Glen Hansard's voice is beautiful and sexy.. This is declared one of my top favorite two movies of 2007, along with No Country for Old Men.

4. I Am Legend: Also checked this out after a Nanette review (I'm seeing a new career for you!!) and call me a huge wimp, but this movie brought me back to me wanting to watch only romantic comedies! I felt like it was too many downers with no uppers (can anyone tell I don't like to go out of my comfort zone?!?). Sure the special effects were cool, but it just wasn't for me. The boy enjoyed watching it though, so I look at it more as taking one for the team.. Will Smiths body was very jacked...

Tuesday, December 4

I am McLovin..

This clip is one of many reasons why this movie will make you laugh, giggle and gaggle.

Jonah Hill and Michael Cera should get nominated for oscars.. or at least kids choice awards..

No Blogging for Old Men

So last night, Gus and I hit up the old school Coolidge Corner Movie theater in Brookline to go see No Country for Old Men. I'm usually a complete wimp and never see scary movies. The last scary movie I saw in the theater was Scream (the original) okay that's a lie, I saw both Kill Bills too. Let's just say all three of those movies made me sleep with the lights on for the next 3 months. No Country For Old Men was by far one of the best films I've seen in awhile. It was suspenseful, funny, insane, scary and caused me to yelp and shake a few times while sticking my fingers in my ears! All in good fun though. I'm probably the only one who can say this, but all three main characters had some sort of attractiveness in their own way. Javier Bardem (whos been seen canoodling with Penelope Cruz in real life) plays the absolutely psychotic crazy assassin on a cat and mouse chase- and the bowl cut made him look even more intense. Josh Brolin plays the cowboy trying to figure out if he's a hero or a bad guy.. and Tommy Lee Jones plays the old cop trying to piece this whole thing together. If you're going to see it, definitely go see it in the theater, because you feel like you're a part of the ride when seeing it on the big screen. And if you enjoy the Oscars, you might as well go see it b/c something tells me it'll be up for many a' prizes.

Warning- make sure you bring your hands with you to the movie, cos you'll probably cover your eyes a couple random times.

Such an entertaining movie experience! I think I'm going to read the book now. (yeah, i'm one of those people)

Go Back To Bed!!

Make sure you push all your clocks back an hour this morning b/c its Daylight Savings time.
Why don't they do this on a Monday when you actually want to sleep in?

Saw American Gangster last night. Thought it was pretty good, but not as good as The Departed. Denzel and Russell Crow were both pretty dreamy in it. Definite rental, but its a fun movie to watch in the theater as well.

note* thats how Rocco sleeps sometimes, its hilarious which is why i took a picture of it.

The Darjeeling Limited

Can't wait to see this one. Wes Anderson is my favorite.. it came out limited release this weekend. Anyone see it yet?

Check out Anderson's short film "Hotel Chevalier" (featuring Natalie Portman) for free on iTunes. (I just typed those key words in 'search' and it popped right up)

Be Kind, Rewind

For those of you who loved Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and the Science of Sleep, director Michel Gondry is making a movie with Jack Black and Mos Def that looks too delish! Its not coming out til December or January (different sites had different dates), but check out this trailer.

Can't wait!!!!!!!

Sunday, August 19

Superbad!

Because its super funny and entertaining. Me, Gus and his younger bro, Joey, checked it out on Saturday and laughed about 100% of the time. The whole cast was hilarious, and I do see a slight possibility of naming my next dog McLovin.

CNN's review calling it the funniest movie since Borat.

Debuted as the top movie this weekend. $32.1 Mil... not too shabby

A Fallen Star and a Bostonian Representin'

Checked out two movies in Theaters recently...

Stardust: Got a lot better as the movie progressed. One critic said it was "Shrek" for grownups.. while it wasn't as funny as Shrek- it still had a chuckle here and there. Awesome cast and a neat story line. Michelle Pfeiffer rocked as the villain, Robert De Niro was too much (in a good way), and this is by far Claire Danes best work since The Boiler Room episode in My So Called Life. I'd say its a definite rental.

Bourne Ultimatum: Who is Jason Bourne you might ask? Well, you find out in this 3rd installment that kicks James Bond's ass! Go see it in theaters, because Matt Damon is even more dreamy on a gigantic movie scream. Julia Stiles, nice to see you have acted in a movie besides Save the Last Dance and 10 Things I hate about You! And you don't have to catch up on the previous two movies before seeing this, unless you want to which is kosher as well.

ALSO: We rented "I Think I Love My Wife" with Chris Rock. If you like all the messed up entertaining fighting in Knocked Up, you'll lurve this 'romantic comedy on crack'!

Monday, July 30

Don't Reserve this!

So I figured on my birthday would be the one day I could drag Gus to go see No Reservations with CZJ. "Julie, I'll go see the movie with you- but I just don't want you to stop liking CZJ when you see how horrible this movie is.."

HA go figure he was right! While Aaron Eckhart brought a few minutes of comic relief into this unromantic comedy, it totally sucked! CZJ was probably the worst cast in this movie, trying to be just a normal single girl in Manhattan. Then bring in the same plot as Raising Helen (when Kate Hudson becomes responsible for her sister's children, and has to change her fabulous lifestyle). CZJ you still looked beautiful though- you could just tell you were acting the whole entire time!

SHOULD'VE SEEN THE SIMPSONS!!

Wednesday, July 25

Finally some Summer Flicks

  • No Reservations, this friday: My post on Catherine Zeta Jones explains this one. Plus Aaron Eckhart is dreamy.
  • Hot Rod, August 3: Andy Samberg from SNL's infamous "Lazy Sunday" & "Dick in a Box"
  • Stardust, August 10: Usually not a fan of Fantasy Flicks, but I love the cast and the preview looks pretty interesting.
  • Superbad, August 17: Cannot wait for this one! For all you Arrested Development fans, George Michael is in this movie, pretty much playing the character he does so well.. Hopefully Gob and Gangy will appear as well.

Massachusetts defeats the ban!

Today MASS legislators voted nitsch nitsch on the amendment to ban gay marriage. I don't try to touch on politics too much (if at all!) but I totally think people should have equal rights to marry whomever makes them happy. A great day in the commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Here are two editorials from the Boston Globe from both sides..
