A Dose of Reality (tv)

I really think the Reality Gods are agreeing with me lately.. all of my picks have been kickin' ass!

• Shayne got picked by the Bachelor
• Whitney is our new bootylicious ANTM (oh c'mon this is not a spoiler. if you were a dedicated fan, you'd drop ALL plans for the finale!)
• Adam won Big Brother.. this season was th first time I had watched that show, and let me tell you.. being a contestant is something to strive for in life!
  
• David & David are in the finals (i don't watch Idol, but had a lengthy convo with a coworker in which i totally BS'd my AI opinions during set up for a trade show in Boston today)

Well- before I announce the winner of the fabulous post-its, I'd like to say thank you for all y'all who took a couple minutes to share your favorite SATC quotes and eps with me! AND even you Weemo! You know I love disagreeing on tv/movie reviews with you :)

I loved all of the responses and believe me, about 90% of the quotes you mentioned have been used in my Instant Messenger profile once or twice during the college years, but my ALL TIME FAVORITE goes to Jenn from Free and Flawed with her pick:

Something about this quote... kladfkljafds. And he says it a couple more times later on the ep. But the real reason I love this, is because Big finally got a taste of his own medicine. This guy who had crushed Carrie's heart more than once was shell shocked that he couldn't have something he wanted. He also realized Carrie was an actual friend, not just an ex. This was the episode that Big crashes Carrie and Aidan's "upstate" new york weekend.

Carrie described her boyfriend and ex as "batman and superman" fighting it out after a silly game of hoops. I just really loved that episode. Jenn- email me your address and I'll get those post-its out to you today!!

The Post-it Always Sticks Twice

SO.. I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I was going to order some designer post-its that were featured in In Style Magazine. Me being the baller that I am opted for 2 packages b/c I thought it would be fun to actually give one to a JQ Lounge Reader. But how do you pick such a lucky girl?

Beats me! I figured in honor of the SATC movie coming out soon, I'd ask of you..What's your favorite Sex & The City episode OR What's your favorite SATC Quote (or BOTH).. I have a couple in mind and will pick someone at the end of Wednesday. And i'm just a big dork who gets happy when I hear any references to Carrie and the girls.

A Closer Look

• "Hey Cam, where we watching ANTM tonite? Your Malibu Beach house or my NYC Sky Loft?" -Wax Drew Barrymore (btw this took me about 2=3 glances to figure out these were wax figures. Drew looks way too real- Cam's face looks a little off.
• If you couldn't tell from the first bullet- ANTM STARTS UP TONITE! sdfsadfjadfs Smilin' with my eyes right now! If you've never seen it, find out what all the fuss is about, you'll be HOOKED.
  
• This YouTube video that Susie posted is totally awesome. You have to watch it. I dont think I'm ever going to go to the movie theatre and not think the usher is going to ask "Hey- what color underwear you wearing today?"
  
• Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia fans, you'll appreciate Will's investigative reporting.
• OMG there's a chance "How I Met Your Mother" won't be getting renewed?! I'll suit up and boycott outside of CBS if this happens!
• And SNL is set to return this Saturday (night) with Tina Fey as the host and Carrie Underwood as the musical guest. FINALLY.

Ca-Ca-Ca-Carrie!

Why hasn't there been a show like Sex & The City since Carrie and the girls signed off a few years ago? I've given Lipstick Lesbians and Cashmere Sopranos a chance, and probably will continue to watch them as I cry holding onto my DVR remote.. but they totally suck! The women are all ridiculously loaded, they whine, I cannot relate to them whatsoever, none of their relationships are believable, and they seem way too smug. Then I read an article in this week's EW titled "The Search for the Next Sex & The City" and came to a better understanding why all these shows are failing miserably. Check out the article here.
A few excellent points from the article:

• SATC was the first of its kind back in '98 when it debuted.. no one had paid attention to women this way before, and it finally gave women a voice. While Ally McBeal was hitting the airwaves, the huge difference was that SATC embraced singledom while Ms Flockhart's character questioned feminism with her need to have a man in her life.
  

• while many have blatently failed (um.. Heather Graham in the horrible "Emily's Reasons Why Not" and "Jake In Progress"- have mercy) a few shows have actually used the SATC formula and done well.. such as Desperate Housewives, Entourage, Girlfriends..

• what do SATC fans want? EW says "It's about the coolest, smartest women around, living out TV versions of our lives." And even brings up a lady on tv right now who DOES embody that.. Tina Fey's character on 30Rock, Liz Lemon. Lemon is AWESOME! If you haven't heard of 30 rock, click here and read up on her character's wikipedia page. I would totally watch a show about her and her cool funny friends.

Until then, I will keep surfing the web for SATC movie spoilers, counting down to spring when it arrives in theater near me, and watching the repeats on TBS.. patting my self on the shoulder knowing that I can quote about 84% of each and every episode (thats actually a pretty good estimate)

The Duchess of Westminster [dogshow]

The prestigious dog show started last night and finishes up this evening (on USA network). While I don't really understand half of the stuff that goes on during Dog Shows, they are so fun to watch! Maybe I just think that some dog is going to go batshit crazy and start snarling at the other doggies (no Julie, thats only if ROCCO was in it)old english sheepdogs- looks like the Prince's dog in The Little Mermaid

Football Sunday turned into 90210 Sunday

What an awesome way to start this sports free day! I found two back to back episodes of 90210 playing on SoapNet *8am-10*. I haven't watched an ep of 90210 in like 6 years.. and its just as fun and dramatic and awesome as I remember! Besides the hair and some of the outfits and those damn circle sunglasses every guy seemed to wear, this show is totally not dated at all. Dated- is when you watch an episode of Save by the Bell and think to yourself.. did I really take that show seriously at one point? No.. 90210 hit about every topic and situation imaginable.

In just 2 hrs I've dealt with...
- being a freshman at college
- sorority and fraternity life
- a carjacking
- a whirlwind romance with Stuart
- Jim Walsh getting a raise. go dad!
- dating my RA who doesn't want anyone to know (scandalous!)
- an apartment meeting at the beach house b/c david won't clean up after himself (how much do you love how every color of my apartment is a different pastel!)
- a coffee and intervention at the Peach Pit, i don't think I've ever seen Nat in other clothes
- John Sears pursuing me after telling Dylan we should see other people
- purchasing a Porsche
- Porsche getting carjacked

What an awesome way to start a Sunday..

Simon Cowell sounds a lot cooler than i thought

Radar Mag recently told readers 50 things you did NOT know about Simon Cowell. Note: I was never an American Idol fan.. until last season, and now shockingly enough I'm hooked!

A few of my favorite Simon facts, thanks Radar!:

• The one luxury item he'd take to the island? A mirror, "because I'd miss me."

• He only reads tabloids.

Ode to Digital Cable's Guide Function

Using the guide to see whats on is SO much better then just clicking through the 30 or so channels you get with regular cable (which is what i'd been stuck with for the past 2 yrs). I'd like to point out 3 random shows I've been watching ever since Digital Cable Guide came back into my life.

• Man vs Wild on Discovery Channel. Bear Grylls is one crazy mofo. He likes to pee on his shirt before turning it into a hat to wear in the desert. He guts camels and hides in them to protect himself from sand storms. He eats scorpions like they're McDonald's French Fries and drinks water stored in a camels hump like its a Cosmopolitan. Why does he do this? Because he can. That's why. Some people think the show is phony.. and you know what I say to them? Try eating a goat testicle, because something tells me that isn't really a candy apple that Bear Grylls ate on the show last week.
• House Hunters. One of the 35 HGTV shows I'm obsessed with at the moment. But this is by far my favorite. The viewer gets to go along for the ride as a home buyer checks out 3 different houses. Sure it makes me cry a little when I realize how much cheaper houses are in most places compared to Boston, but its still super fun to watch.
• Whose Wedding is it Anyways? on Style Network. I remember in college my roommate Lynn and I were obsessed with TLC's A Wedding Story. Lol unless it wasn't a cute couple, then we'd change the channel! Anyhoo, Whose Wedding is it Anyway is by far the best wedding show on tv. ever. It follows around Wedding Planners in all parts of the country and you can see how different cities and styles really are. The best planner on the show is Lynette Richardson Hall, from Baltimore. She's a diva. She's the best.

The Spears Parents are Whack

"Spears family says Dr. Phil betrayed their trust" is the headline I saw this morning. Apparently Jamie & Lynne thought having the weird questionable therapist go visit the alien after her ufo landed in the mental ward would be a private matter. Why wouldn't Dr. Phil talk about it??!?!?

That's like having the KFed/Beers Custody Case with Judge Judy and not expecting her to air it.
Or having Super Nanny come in and take care of the little ones.
Or having Spencer Pratt become Beers new manager.

I could seriously go on for days about this. Got any good ones?

For Lost Fans.. who are Lost

For those who were completely baffled at the Lost Season 3 finale, fear not, Matthew Fox wants to clear the air. Check out Entertainment Weekly's interview with Jack. SSSSOOOO worth the read. January 31st can't come soon enough.. except i think they only have 8 eps now due to the strike. Blarf.

Why I Love HD!

So we FINALLY got Verizon Fios Cable installed (hello DVR and Digital Cable, my long lost loves). Now that we have a real cable box- we were able to hook up our HDTV (yay for wedding presents!).

OMG, how I love watching HDTV.. only because every single girl on screen puts on about 20 lbs. Its awesome, I can't turn away from the screen with these voluptuous chicks who are usually sticks in real life. The only bad part is there is no new television shows anymore (when is this writer's strike going to be over??). I'm forced to watch Nick Lachey's new show about Choirs <-- no clue on how to spell that and i'm too lazy to google, and Hannah Montana... not that I'm really complaining.
